Doctoral Student Profiles

I am currently a Ph.D. student in Robotics Engineering at Worcester Polytechnic Institute. I received the B.E. degree in Computer Science and B.A. degree in English Language and Literature from Harbin Institute of Technology in 2014. In 2016, I graduated from Worcester Polytechnic Institute with the M.S. degree in Computer Science.

My name is Ming Luo. I am 5 year PhD Candidate from Robotics Engineering. My advisor is Prof. Cagdas. My research direction is soft robot, snake robot and artificial muscle.

I have received a BEng and a MSc from the Université Libre de Bruxelles. I joined WPI as a PhD student in Robotics in 2016. I work in the NEST lab and my area of interest is in swarm robotics.

I am enthusiastic about the application of robotics in real world problems, surgical robotics being one of them. I believe that surgery can vastly be improved by the use of new technology and innovation and I am happy to be part of the community working towards it. I have finished my M.S in Robotics at WPI and have continued on with my Ph.D. I feel honored to have been a Fulbright fellow during my M.S. I have also worked at a medical robotics company for two summers (2015 & 2016) which have turned out to be the most valuable experience for myself. There, I have contributed towards the ...

I am a Ph.D. student in Robotics Engineering Program at Worcester Polytechnic Institute. I work as a research assistant in the Soft Robotics Lab. I received my B.S. and M.Sc. degrees in Mechatronics Engineering from Sabanci University in 2011 and 2013. My research interest include soft bodied robots, compliant sensing and actuation modules and legged robotics. Please visit the Soft Robotic Lab web site for latest publications.

Jayam is a graduate student in Robotics Engineering and working on Human-Swarm Interaction in NEST Lab. He completed his MS in Robotics in May 2016 and BEng. in Electronics and Communication in May 2012. His previous research interests and experiences have been in Assistive Robotics, Internet of Things and Home Automation. His passion is to teach and wants to remain in academia for his life. Along with academia, he loves gaming and listening to music. He is well connected to his spiritual side and practices Reiki and Tarot Card Reading.

Michael obtained a B.S. in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Rhode Island in 2016, and he began his PhD in Robotics Engineering at WPI in January 2017. Michael is a Research Engineer at Delsys Inc., and his research focuses on motor control strategies. Prior to his academic study, Michael served as a Hospital Corpsman in the United States Navy for 8 years, and deployed twice with the United States Marines Corps in direct support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. He currently serves as a Chief Hospital Corpsman in the United States Navy Reserve.

Marek was born and raised in Portland, Maine and completed a B.S. and M.S. in Biomedical Engineering at The University of Connecticut. He also has an M.S. Automation and Control Engineering from Politecnico di Milano. Marek is a PhD student in the Robotics Engineering department and his research interests include robotic control systems applied to medical technologies and image guided therapy. His current work is developing MRI compatible robots for prostate cancer biopsies.
