Frequently Asked Questions
What is the role of the Office of Foundation Relations?
Foundation Relations helps to build relationships between private foundations and WPI. We serve as the primary contact for foundations that wish to philanthropically support WPI. In addition to assisting with proposal development, we are also able to arrange for meetings or campus visits between foundation representatives and members of the WPI community. We work with professional foundations, family foundations, community foundations, and corporate foundations.
When should a foundation contact the Office of Foundation Relations?
We welcome the opportunity to discuss partnerships and collaborations with your foundation. You can connect with our office to explore partnerships across our campus or if you have a specific area of interest.
My foundation will only support 501c3 organizations. Is WPI a 501c3?
Yes, WPI is exempt from federal income tax under Section 115 of the Internal Revenue Code.
What is the difference between sponsored research and a gift?
Whether funds received for a research project will be administered as a gift or as sponsored research is based upon the nature of the funded project and the terms and conditions of the award documents.
