Dr. Parth Y. Patel is the research engineer of the Autonomous Vehicle Mobility Institute (AVMI) at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI). His research and engineering area focuses on simulating and virtualizing off-road autonomous vehicle dynamics (Terramechanics) in unstructured terrain environments, severe weather conditions, and control. His research and design in autonomous ground vehicles include but are not limited to wheel power distribution optimization to enhance autonomous vehicle terrain mobility, maneuvering, and energy efficiency. Additionally, his work involves developing advanced computational fluid dynamics (CFD) models to simulate external aerodynamics (including fluid-terrain interaction) and wind-driven rain impacts on vehicles. Furthermore, he has devised a novel multibody -Dynamic and Aerodynamic Intelligent Morphing System (DA-IMS) to enhance autonomous vehicles' stability and operational performance. Before joining AVMI, Dr. Parth received his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) in 2023. He is a co-organizer of the ASME-AVT (Advanced Vehicle Technologies) Vehicle Design Committee. He serves as the reviewer for several journals and international conferences, including the Journal of Autonomous Vehicles and Systems, Vehicle System Dynamics, AIAA, MSR, USCToMM, ASME IDETC/CIE, SAE WCX, ISTVS, IAVSD, etc.
