Mohammed El Hamzaoui teaches academic writing to native and non-native speakers of English, Arabic as a foreign language to non-native speakers and ISE (Integrated Skills of English) courses to international students. Mohammed adopts an eclectic approach to teaching languages; he uses a communicative and interactive methodology to help students overcome persistent fears related to learning, speaking and writing in foreign languages. Also, as a first-generation college graduate, Mohammed relies on the intellectual and practical obstacles he faced to help students acclimate to different learning environments including the need to develop cross-cultural competencies and awareness of social issues surrounding them and the local community.
Mohammed’s teaching passions include teaching English and Arabic as foreign/second languages, language learning and acquisition, language learning strategies, Media Studies (filmic representations), Cultural Studies (travel narratives, colonial texts & postcolonial literature) and sociolinguistics (the development of anti-languages as forms of anti-societal behavior).
