Payroll Frequencies

All student workers at WPI are paid biweekly on Fridays, unless otherwise indicated on the following payroll calendars. 

All graduate students in the Graduate Workers Union (GWU) should follow the "GWU Biweekly AY24-25" payroll calendar. All other student workers should follow the "Biweekly 2025" payroll calendar.

Time Recording/Entry

All student workers are expected to enter in their work hours before each biweekly deadline as indicated on the payroll calendars. Work hours are entered in Workday, refer to the job aid below for assistance.

Student Wage Guidelines

WPI follows tiered wage guidelines for all student workers. Several factors go into the compensation required for each role including:

  • Level of prior experience required to complete the job
  • Level of training necessary to complete the job
  • Level of professional supervision to student employee
  • Level of supervision required from student employee to direct the work of others
  • Level of independent work performed by student employee
  • Level of independent judgement calls required by student employee

All proposed pay rates for student positions will be subject to final review by the Division of Talent & Inclusion. Department funding, departmental needs/capacity, and position responsibilities will be considered when making a final determination. 

Effective January 1, 2023, the minimum wage in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts is $15.00 per hour. The wage tiers may be adjusted as needed if federal, state, or local regulations are updated. To view the wage tiers and corresponding wage matrix, navigate to the Student Wage Guidelines page.
