As mandated by the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986, all new employees within the United States must complete an I-9 form within the first three days after their hire date for any employment that results in compensation. This applies to both United States citizens and non-citizens, The purpose of this law is to ensure that all new employees are authorized to work within the United States. All employees who are United States citizens should review the list of Acceptable Forms of ID that they can present to complete this requirement.
The I-9 form and process for WPI employees is structured into three separate sections and are described in more detail below.
Section One
The employee will login to Workday and complete Section 1 of the I-9 form no later than the first day of hire.
Section Two
The employee must present original forms of ID to the Office of Talent & Inclusion no later than the third day after their hire date. All forms of ID must be valid and unexpired. Photocopies/scans and digital versions of all IDs are unacceptable. For fully remote employees, the Division of Talent & Inclusion will coordinate with the employee to review alternative ways to complete the I-9 verification process. If the employee fails to comply with this requirement, an administrative termination will be completed.
Section Three
After a review of the employees’ appropriate forms of ID, they will either be authorized or unauthorized for employment with WPI.
