The true essence of Día de Muertos: A colorful way of celebrating life
4:00 pm to 6:00 pm
Día de Muertos (Day of the Dead) is an opportunity for us to honor and celebrate the life of our loved ancestors who departed before us. Chemistry and Biochemistry department, in partnership with the Center for Well-Being and UNAM-Boston will be celebrating Día de Muertos the week of October 28th. Specifically, on November 1st (4:00-6:00 PM), Dr. Raquel Urroz Kanán, a Professor of Anthropology at the National School of Anthropology and History in Mexico, will share with the WPI community the historical meaning of Día de Muertos from ancient civilizations to current Mexican society at the Center for Well-Being. Dr. Urroz Kanán will describe how ofrenda, an altar where we offer flowers, food, decoration, and messages to our loved ones who went before us, has been changed across several centuries. Please, join us to explore and celebrate the cultural and spiritual richness of this Mexican festivity through observing a traditional ofrenda, having pan de Muerto (traditional Mexican sweet pastry to celebrate this festivity), and sharing stories and memories of our loved ones. Chemistry and Biochemistry Department will celebrate the life of Prof. James Dittami. Come to remember and honor the lives of those who came before us. We look forward to seeing you!
