Title: Taking Linear Algebra to the Next Dimension
Abstract: Linear algebra is central to mathematical, scientific, and industrial advancement. It provides a common language to encapsulate a wide range of fundamental tasks, including solving linear systems through Gaussian elimination, uncovering long-term dynamics through eigendecompositions, and developing models from data through regression. In this talk, we will take linear algebra to the next dimension by introducing three-dimensional analogs of matrices called tensors. We will explore how well-understood linear algebra concepts change when we add a new dimension and the mathematical consequences of those changes.
