Title: Statistical modeling of complex data with applications

Abstract: As advanced technologies continue to emerge, the collection of massively big data and complex data objects has become increasingly common in various scientific studies and commercial applications. Analyzing such data poses serious challenges. For instance, complex data objects often possess both topological and geometric properties, and statistical analysis tools are generally underdeveloped for such non-standard data. In addition, traditional statistical methods may not be well-suited for handling the scale and the complexity of big data applications. In this talk, we will specifically focus on two types of data from neuroscience: neuromorphology data and neuron activity data. We will present novel statistical methodologies along with fast-to-implement algorithms to address the challenges associated with these data types. The performance of the proposed methods will be demonstrated through real data examples.
