On behalf of the WPI Data Science program, we invite you to celebrate the achievements of our undergraduate summer researchers at the 2024 WPI Summer Research Showcase on Thursday, August 1st, 2024, from 2:00PM-4:00PM in the Innovation Studio.  This showcase will highlight student summer work/research in partnership with the Office of Undergraduate Research and several REU sites.

This year, faculty from Computer Science, Data Science, and Electrical & Computer Engineering served as Data Science REU Project Advisors for their 2024 Summer Site. In addition, several PhD students served as mentors. Please give a special thank you to REU Project Advisors Prof. Elke Rundensteiner, Prof. Chun-Kit Ngan, Prof. Fabricio Murai, and Prof. Ziming Zhang. In addition, we would also like to thank the Ph.D. Mentors including Shannon Song, Becks Lopez, Avantika Shrestha, Qiaochu Liu, Deep Suchak, and Jose Morales. Several of the projects also included collaborations with faculty and students from The University of Connecticut (UConn) and The University of Massachusetts Chan Medical School. This program has been a success, and it is not without the tremendous efforts of the advisors and mentors who have spent countless hours supporting and guiding our students through research over the past 10 weeks. We cannot thank them enough for their commitment to this program.

This year, 11 students participated in our REU site from across the country with diverse backgrounds and skill sets. Students joined us from WPI, the University of Colorado Boulder, Providence College, Smith College, Loyola Marymount University, Northeastern University, Amherst College, and the University of Texas-Dallas.

Students participating in this REU Site was supposed by the NSF REU SITE 2349370: Applied Artificial Intelligence for Advanced Applications, led by PI Professor Elke Rundensteiner, Co-PI Professor Chun-Kit Ngan and Co-PI Dr. Kelsey Briggs.

We would love for you to join us on this exciting day so the students can showcase their hard work and research achievements over the past ten weeks. The symposium will showcase Data Science REU posters and posters from other REU sites across campus.
