Course and Program Projects Develop Civic Engagement Module
1:30 pm to 2:30 pm
The educational system holds an especially important role in preparing young people to participate in democratic civic life. The declining emphasis on civic education in the American public school system is well documented, as is its connection to acceptance of democratic principles, and political participation (Galston, 2001). With assistance from a Courses and Programs Morgan Center grant, we developed a set of curated civic engagement resources, activities and slide decks that can be used by faculty. We divided resources into two parts: I) introduction to civic engagement, and II) application of civic engagement. In this FFT we will walk you through our in-progress Canvas site, share some of the activities and resources, and discuss early feedback from in-class pilots.
