WPI Names Student Athletes of the Week
MALE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK – TEDDY KOSTOPOULOS
Teddy Kostopoulos ’15, of the wrestling team, has been honored as the WPI Male Student-Athlete of the Week for the week ending Sunday, Jan. 11. Kostopoulos, a senior from Devon, Conn., notched four wins for the Engineers at the North-South Duals at Ursinus. He bumped up from 197 to heavyweight and tallied a pin in overtime (7:49) to guarantee WPI a 22-15 victory in its opener against Merchant Marine. Kostopoulos completed his perfect day with a second round pin at 285 in the Crimson and Gray’s triumph over Elizabethtown and in between added a forfeit win against Stevens and a pin versus the host Bears while competing at 197 pounds.
FEMALE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK- EMILY MARTIN
Emily Martin ’17, a member of the swimming and diving team, has been selected as the WPI Female Student-Athlete of the Week. Martin, of Penfield, N.Y., led with a pair of wins as the Engineers fell Saturday afternoon to Bowdoin 148-82. The sophomore touched the wall first in the 100-yard freestyle in a time of 55.03 and captured the 200-yard IM with a time of 2:15.43.
