WPI Vex U team with trophy

WPI’s VEXU robotics team made history this past weekend, sweeping the competition at the Seton Hall University VEXU Qualifier in South Orange, New Jersey. Competing against top universities such as Rutgers, Northeastern, and NJIT, WPI went undefeated and secured all three major awards—a first in the team’s history.

The team clinched the Tournament Champion title, emerging victorious in the elimination bracket without dropping a single match. They also took home the Skills Champion award for achieving the highest skills score at the event. Capping off their remarkable performance, WPI was honored with the prestigious Excellence Award, the highest recognition in VEXU, which acknowledges outstanding achievements in engineering design, teamwork, performance, and professionalism.

“This is an incredible milestone for WPI VEXU,” said Abby Mansour. “Winning all three major awards at a single event is something we’ve never done before, and we’re only halfway through the season.”

This victory adds to the team’s growing list of accomplishments. Just a week earlier, WPI also secured the Excellence Award at the Framingham VEXU Qualifier, marking their first Excellence win since 2019. With their latest triumph, they are now tied for the highest number of awards won in a single season, a record set in 2019.

Representing WPI at the event were Vishesh Konduru, Abby Mansour, Dylan Schmit, Ethan Katz, Ellio Zhu, Dhruv Madan, and Ian Ferlito, each contributing to the team’s outstanding performance.

With their dominant performance, WPI VEXU has officially qualified for the VEX Robotics World Championship—and thanks to their Excellence Award win, they are now eligible to compete for additional judged awards at Worlds. But their season isn’t over yet! The team is gearing up for upcoming competitions at the RIT VEXU Qualifier and the Mid-Atlantic VEXU Qualifier at the University of Delaware later this term.

Beyond competing, WPI VEXU is dedicated to fostering the next generation of robotics talent, regularly volunteering at local high school and middle school VEX competitions almost every weekend.

With momentum on their side, WPI VEXU is proving they are a force to be reckoned with in the world of collegiate robotics. As they set their sights on Worlds, one thing is certain—this season is shaping up to be one for the record books.
