STEM Education CenterOn April 27, WPI Students in the Teacher Preparation Program and Mass Academy students volunteered their time to bring engaging and informative STEM activities to middle and high school students attending the AVANZA STEM Expo 2024. This event was held by the Latino Education Institute (LEI) at Worcester State University, which offered workshops on various STEM topics featuring different types of "hands-on" STEM experiences. The Expo aimed to spark interest in STEM and encourage students to explore STEM fields.
WPI student Joelis Velez Diaz, a Chemical Engineer with an environmental concentration, and Joseph Yu, a Mass Academy high school student, were among the guest speakers on a panel. Both shared their experiences and journeys in the STEM world.
Wilson Gramer, a WPI Computer Science student, facilitated the “Coding with Wipple” workshop to middle and high school students. Wipple is an educational coding language developed by Wilson. In this workshop, students learned how to make their own amazing drawings and music with Wipple code.
Mass Academy students Joseph Yu, Travis Tran, Kayla Vallecillo, and Faculty Kristen Small engaged students in building their own hydraulic boxes. By connecting tubes and attaching gears, students transformed a simple box into a hydraulic-powered marvel, bringing their creations to life.
The STEM Education Center is happy to be continuing their partnership with LEI and the annual AVANZA event.
