Weekly Update TextKaren Mushrall collected a season-high with 10 saves and sophomore back Lindsey Giorgi assisted on multiple goals for her first two career points as Field Hockey defeated MIT 4-0 in an important field hockey contest on Saturday.  The victory was the first for Worcester's Engineers over their rival from Cambridge since a 2-1 overtime victory on September 29th, 2009.  The streak was nine games, including a NEWMAC Tournament Quarterfinal contest in 2014.  Abby O’Sullivan netted two goals and Angie Ferro and Bridget Sullivan added tallies while Jackie Cardin notched a defensive save.

Paul Beatty netted a goal and an assist as Men's Soccer earned three valuable points by coming from behind and defeating host Coast Guard 2-1 in a key NEWMAC contest played Saturday in rainy conditions. The Engineers, ranked sixth in the latest United Soccer Coaches New England Regional Top 10, are now 9-2-2 overall and 3-0-2 against conference foes.  WPI's 11 points keep them one behind NEWMAC frontrunner Springfield, who defeated Emerson 3-1 Saturday and is now 4-1 (12 points).

Women's Rowing saw its varsity eight earn gold for the third consecutive year as the Engineers hosted the Quinsigamond Snake Regatta Saturday on Lake Quinsigamond.  The Crimson and Gray saw five boats participate in their lone home meet of the fall season.    The top eight completed the course in 15:04.183, well ahead of Wellesley (15:39.916), Holy Cross (15:47.486) and Colby (15:47.633).

Mem’s Rowing earned a bronze medal Saturday while hosting the Quinsigamond Snake Regatta on Lake Quinsigamond. The Engineers turned in a time of 13:39.658; however Holy Cross posted a 13:21.977 and Williams crossed the finish line in 13:36.132. WPI B, meanwhile, was 11th (14:22.689) and WPI C was 16th (14:58.775).

Kristen McCrea scored in the 76th minute to guide Women's Soccer to a 1-0 triumph over visiting Mount Holyoke Saturday afternoon in Alumni Stadium.  With the win, the Engineers (10-4, 4-2 NEWMAC) achieve 10 wins for the fourth consecutive season and for the fifth time in six years for head coach Steph Riley-Schafer.

Sarah Kwatinetz
tallied a match-best 12 kills and Volleyball hit .230 or better, including a .360 convincing fourth set, as the Engineers defeated Gordon, 3-1 (25-19, 22-25, 25-20, 25-14), Friday night at Plattsburgh State's Cardinal Quad.  The Crimson and Gray extended their winning streak Saturday to nine straight with a 3-0 win over the hosts before falling 3-0 St. Lawrence. WPI is now 18-4 overall.

Michael Brady was 12th overall, and the top placing NEWMAC runner, to lead Men’s Cross Country to an eighth-place showing at the Conn College Invitational Saturday at Harkness State Park.  No. 16 Amherst claimed the team title (72), No. 8 Williams (76) was second, and No. 12 Middlebury (96) was third.  Sydney Packard delivered a top-12 finish as Women’s Cross Country was 10th as a team. Fall break will feature a pair of home games.  Women’s Soccer hosts Wheaton at 7pm Tuesday while Field Hockey entertains nationally-ranked Babson on Saturday at 1pm.  Other key conference contests next week include Volleyball at Wheaton on Tuesday at 7pm and Football at Merchant Marine and Men’s Soccer at Springfield both on Saturday at 1pm.  Additionally, Men’s and Women’s Rowing competes Sunday in the historic Head of the Charles Regatta.
