Julian Nyland tossed three first quarter touchdowns and Connor Field ran for three touchdowns and caught a fourth score as undefeated Football went on the road on and topped Catholic 52-24 on Saturday.  The Engineers, the number one team in New England and receiving votes in both the D3football.com and AFCA Top 25s, are now 6-0 overall and 3-0 in conference action.  Six consecutive wins to begin the season matches the 1938 and 1954 squads, who completed 6-0 undefeated campaigns, and trails only the undefeated 8-0 1983 team for the best start in the 130-year history of WPI football.

Jackson Conroy scored a pair of second half goals as Men’s Soccer bested visiting Coast Guard, 3-0, in a NEWMAC match Saturday afternoon in Alumni Stadium.  The Engineers (8-2-4, 3-0-2) remain unbeaten in conference play.  Conroy struck at 53:49 and 63:39. Both were free kicks with Brandon Hima and Luke Reiniger assisting on the first and Francesco Valagussa helping with the second.

For the second straight year, Women's Rowing earned a bronze medal at the prestigious Head of the Charles Regatta. The varsity eight finished in third place in the Collegiate Eights while the second varsity eight was 23rd overall.  The varsity eight reached the finish line in a time of 16:53.028.  The race featured all the top six boats that raced in the grand final at the NCAA Championships on June.  Defending champion Bates won again Sunday (16:26.595) with Wellesley second (16:47.200), Hamilton fourth (16:47.200), Ithaca fifth (17:05.636) and Wesleyan 13th (17:27.518).

Men's Rowing saw a pair of boats compete in the collegiate eight Sunday at the historic Head of The Charles Regatta.  The Engineers placed 22nd and 27th overall in a strong field that saw 38 boats participate. The varsity eight turned in a time of 15:19.378, just a fraction of a second (0.17) behind 21st-place Tufts in a possible Baker Cup preview this spring and ahead of Marrietta, UConn, Colby and UC Davis.

Kristen McCrea notched a goal in each half as Women’s Soccer went on the road and defeated Mount Holyoke, 5-0, in NEWMAC play on Saturday afternoon at the MHC Soccer Field. The Engineers improve to 12-3 on the year with a 4-2 mark in league play. WPI held a 47-5 shot advantage over 90 minutes of play, and were awarded nine corner kicks compared to the Lyons' two.

Brian Brooks finished 27th to lead Men's Cross Country to a 10th-place finish at the Connecticut College Invitational Saturday at Harkness Memorial State Park. Brooks posted a 25:18.1, just 0.1 off of 26th and .3 shy of 25th. David Reynolds came home 40th (25:29.0). The 8K, which featured eight nationally-ranked team teams and all but one team in the USTFCCCA New England coaches top 10, saw the regional No. 8 Engineers best New England No. 6 Tufts, No. 7 Connecticut College and No. 10 Trinity, Atlantic No. 6 Ramapo and No. 9 Rochester, and Midwest No. 9 Wisconsin Whitewater.

Sydney Packard was 35th and Women's Cross Country team placed 16th at the 6K Connecticut College Invitational, which featured a number of nationally-ranked teams and eight of the top teams in New England, Saturday at Harkness Memorial State Park.  Packard produced a time of 22:27.6 while Keely Nistler was 75th (23:06.9).  Trailing the Crimson and Gray (397) were Mideast No. 5 Messiah (412), New England No. 9 Wellesley (19th - 459), South/Southeast No. 8 Christopher Newport (20th - 501) and No. 31 Coast Guard (26th - 865).

Lindsey Giorgi's first career goal was the game-winner with just 2:33 remaining in regulation as Field Hockey kept its perfect season alive with a pulsating 5-4 come-from-behind victory at Conn College on Tuesday afternoon. The Engineers found themselves down 2-0, 3-2 and 4-3 but rallied to tie it with a career-best four goals by Abby O'Sullivan (Walpole, MA) before Giorgi's heroics sent the Crimson and Gray back to Worcester with a 12-0 record.  The Engineers would later defeat Worcester State to move to 13-0 before falling to MIT on Saturday 3-2.

Sarah Kwatinetz and Amanda Wetmore each smashed 10 kills as Volleyball rolled to a 3-0 non-conference victory at Emmanuel Thursday night on Andy Yosinoff Court. The duo also hit .529 and .400, respectively.  Also contributing to the team's 43 swipes were Colleen Mullins with eight and Abbie Gilbert with five while Catherine Reynolds passed off 32 assists.

Tuesday has Volleyball and Field Hockey at home at 7pm.  Volleyball squares off with Wheaton while Field Hockey tangles with Smith.  Saturday features a home tripleheader at home.  Men’s Soccer kicks it off with an 11am kickoff with Springfield while Football hosts Merchant Marine at 2:30pm and Women’s Soccer entertains Wellesley at 6:30pm.   Swimming and Diving opens its 2019-2020 campaign Friday and Saturday in the Worcester City Championships at Holy Cross and Rowing hosts the Quinsigamond Fall Rowing Festival on Saturday.
