Announcements

STARS Workship -Finishing the Semester Strong November 1st 12pm – 1pm Higgins Labs 202 Lunch is provided. Come create a plan for November and December. Learn meditation exercises from Paula Fitzpatrick, the Director of the Center for Well-Being. 

Clocks change on Sunday! Daylight savings time ends and the clocks will move back one hour. The earlier setting of the sun can be difficult on well-being. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to your Student Success Manager if you are having a hard time. 

Wellness Day Graduate Student Event: Cards of Kindness! Tuesday, November 5th 11am – 12pm Salisbury Labs 105 Come make a gratitude card for someone in your life along with a card for senior citizens in the Worcester area.  Snacks will be provided!

VECTOR SOLUTIONS TRAININGS – Mandatory trainings for all Graduate Students past their first year.  Must be completed by November 10. 

Career and Professional Development

Individual Development Plan (IDP) Program

October 24, 31, and November 7. 12-1 PM Virtually via Zoom. Program is intended for PhD students and Postdocs, though masters students are also welcome to attend. Registration required. Do you want to learn how to strategically manage your career, how to identify career options that would be a good fit, and better set goals to reach your career objectives? If yes, then please consider participating.

Grad Student Training and Readiness Sessions (STARS)

A multi-session series run monthly throughout the academic year to provide overviews on a variety of pertinent career and professional development topics.

Graduate Researcher Education and Training (GREAT) Series

The GREAT series is for graduate student researchers, Masters Thesis and PhD students, and will provide training on a range of skills researchers need to be successful. Upcoming sessions:  

Postdoc Position Search Boot Camp

November 11 and 18. 12-1 PM via Zoom. This two session virtual workshop is for PhD students considering seeking a postdoc position now or in the future. Please register to receive Zoom information and to receive recordings of the sessions if unable to participate live.  

ID500: Responsible Conduct of Research course (0 credits)

Spring Semester 2025. 11:00-11:50 AM on Wednesdays, hybrid format with some sessions in person in HL114 and some on Zoom. Rory Flinn, Assistant Dean of Graduate Studies, is running a graduate level zero credit course, Responsible Conduct of Research, ID 500, in Spring 2025. Registration for the course must be completed through Workday. Postdocs should contact me to get officially registered.

Social, Community, and Wellness Activities 

Join the CWB for Party Smart on Tuesday, November 12th 5-7pm in Morgan Wedge and learn how to party safely! There will be fun activities, giveaways, and resources and information on alcohol, drugs, and general party culture tips and tricks. More info in MyWPI. 

WPI Vaccine Clinic: Tuesday, November 5th 12pm – 5pm. If you haven’t gotten the flu vaccine this fall, this is your chance!

Funding Opportunities and Competitions  

Department of Energy Computational Science Graduate Fellowship – Deadline January 16, 2025 The DOE CSGF is open to U.S. citizens or lawful permanent residents who plan full-time, uninterrupted study toward a Ph.D. at an accredited U.S. university. Open to Master’s students planning to pursue their PhD at a different University. 

Center for Internet Technology Policy Fellows Program The Center for Internet Technology Policy Fellows Program is a competitive in-residence program that supports scholars in research and policy work. CITP current research is in three areas: Platforms & Digital Infrastructure; Data Science, AI & Society; and Privacy & Security. New fellows are hired in three tracks: Postdoctoral track; Visiting professional track; & Microsoft Visiting Professor track  Applications are due Friday, December 2, 2024 at 11:59 p.m. EST.      

Volunteer and Community Service Opportunities

Worcester Youth Center There is a need for volunteers in tutoring, financial literacy instruction, mentoring, arts programming and other areasThe greatest need is during the afterschool hours between 2pm – 7pm.
