David Spanagel gave an invited public lecture as part of this year's bicentennial series of events celebrating the construction of the Fifth Meeting House in Lancaster, Massachusetts, designed by Charles Bulfinch.  David's talk was entitled "1816: 'The Year Without a Summer,'" and it attracted an audience of about 40 attendees on June 12, 2016.

David also served as Chair and Commentator for “Science in the Age of Emancipation: Making Scientific Knowledge in an Atlantic World Transformed by Revolution” session at the Omohundro Institute for Early American History and Culture annual conference that was hosted by WPI (June 26, 2016).
