Women's Research And Mentorship Program
This program is for young women who are interested in exploring STEM research with positive, female role models. Each research/mentoring team will include two high school students, one undergraduate student, and one graduate student. Topic areas range according to the research focus of the graduate students participating in the program. Participants will work on their research project for 2-5 hours per week, attend team meetings, and attend Saturday Workshops (required).
Upon successful completion of the program, high school participants will receive a $250 stipend and $500 credit towards the Frontiers pre-college STEM summer program at WPI in 2025.

Grades: Female-identifying and non-binary students in Grades 10 & 11

Closing Presentation Session, families invited: Friday, December 6, 2024; 4:30 - 6:30 PM
*High school mentees must also be available to meet with their team at WPI 1-2 times per week.

Girls Who Code
Girls Who Code is an international non-profit organization that helps to close the gender gap in technology. Through the Girls Who Code program at WPI, female and non-binary students will be able to learn the foundations of computer science from positive female role models who are currently involved in the field. This winter, students will be introduced to fundamentals of coding in our virtual beginner session or expand their current coding knowledge with our virtual advanced session.
Beginner: This class is open to students beginning their computer science journey. Students will gain an introduction to coding by learning Web Development. Get introduced to three coding languages (HTML, CSS, and JavaScript) and learn the skills needed to create your own website!
Basic knowledge requirements: None
Advanced: This class is open to students with previous programming experience, or students who have completed WPI's Girls Who Code Beginner course. Learn how to create complex python programs and build new knowledge as you learn! Learn how to create an iterator, bots, and more!
Basic knowledge requirements: variables, basic functions, conditional statements.
Grades: 7th - 11th
Dates and Times: Sessions will run virtually on Tuesday's starting January 28th, through March 4th from 4:30-6:00pm EST.

Caring for the World Together with Women in STEM
For Worcester Public High School women grades 9-11
Students and Champions* will participate in hands-on workshops related to the research of WPI women faculty and graduate students as well as take part in a team design challenge. They will work alongside and learn from successful women in STEM at WPI as they take part in activities designed to highlight how STEM is essential to taking care of the world we live in.
Teachers will participate in a professional development workshop and earn PD hours and join students and champions for a hands-on workshop and design challenge.
This intergenerational event will inspire the next generation of young women in STEM to be scientists, mathematicians, and engineers who are eager to solve the problems in our communities and the world. A light breakfast and boxed lunch are included.
