MassDigi
The Massachusetts Digital Games Institute (MassDigi) was born of the collaboration between academia, state government, and industry dedicated to the growth of digital games in Massachusetts. Since its conception, MassDigi has launched several initiatives to strengthen the bridge between higher education and the games industry.
Hosted on our very own campus, WPI students have access to all the awesome programs that MassDigi offers, including the Game Challenge, Summer Innovation Program, and Experience Program. These programs connect IMGD students with industry professionals from across the state to create a game in a professional game development environment.
In addition to these formal game events, MassDigi provides mentoring and local events for all IMGD students interested in making games and entering the games industry. While you’re here, take advantage of all the MassDigi has to offer!
Game Challenge
The MassDigi Game Challenge is a one-of-a-kind game pitch competition geared towards helping aspiring game developers launch new games. The event features industry mentors, veteran judges, keynotes, and great prizes! Every year, at least one team from WPI competes to pitch their version of the next big game.
Summer Innovation Program
MassDigi’s Summer Innovation Program (SIP) is a 12-week internship program open to students studying game development and other game-related disciplines. From May to August, students work with a team of their peers to build a game from the ground up under the guidance of industry mentors. MassDigi also provides its student interns with free housing, stipends, and access to the development tools needed to create a portfolio-worthy game.
With only 25 available slots, competition for the internship is fierce. WPI students are consistently accepted to the program, and we encourage all IMGD students to apply. Even if you aren’t accepted, MassDigi can offer tips on how to improve your resume and portfolio—so you can apply again next year!
