Strage Innovation Awards

The Strage Award, established in 2005 through the generosity of Henry and Alberta Strage helps encourage WPI undergraduate students who are interested in innovation and turning new ideas into viable new projects or ventures. Students’ ideas are evaluated by a panel of judges.

Henry Strage earned his BS in chemical engineering (class of 1954) and received a PhD (honorary) from WPI in 2011. Henry Strage was a former senior director of McKinsey & Company. During his 30 years of active service, he directed major studies for global enterprises in the pharmaceutical, engineering, energy, chemical, financial, high technology, and electronics industries. His assignments involved work on a broad range of top management problems while concentrating on international strategy, marketing, global management, industrial restructuring, and cross-border mergers and acquisitions.  

The objective of the competition is to develop student knowledge and practical experience in the translation of creative ideas into viable new products, ventures, or licensing opportunities. It may be given to an individual or team involved in submitting their commercial, philanthropic, or social venture ideas. The award will be given annually.
