Why did you choose to study at WPI?
WPI boasts great academics, extensive club and social life opportunities, and a beautiful campus! When I toured, I felt like students had a great sense of pride to go to school here. The average WPI student excels academically while staying extremely active in various activities across campus. I jumped at the opportunity to join this community.
How are you involved with the WPI community?
I mostly split my time between two things: theatre and Greek life! I'm the VP of Lights and Sound for Masque theatre, which runs entirely student-produced shows three times a year. I just finished producing our A term (fall) show, The Alibis, which was a new experience for me. On the Greek life side, I'm a brother in WPI's Sigma Pi chapter, where I keep myself busy on our rush committee. I'm also a tutor for the ECE (electrical and computer engineering) department's Intro to Circuit Design class and will soon be a teaching assistant (TA) for the theatre department's Lighting Design class!
What’s your favorite thing about WPI?
Students at WPI care a lot! Life at WPI isn't just about passing your classes; there's so much more to it! I also really like the unique term system here since it allows me to focus on a small number of classes that end quickly. I'm also a big fan of the project-based learning approach. I don't think I would've ever thought to go abroad without IQP (Interactive Qualifying Project). Classes like GPS (Great Problems Seminar) have certainly added to my resume as well.
Do you have a faculty or staff mentor?
Professors Laura Eckelman, Sarah Lucie, and Nathan Uricchio have all been big mentors for me! Professor Eckelman has been big in bringing me new challenges and giving great feedback on my projects (as well as teaching me how to give feedback). Professor Lucie improved my writing skills and helped me think critically. Professor Uricchio taught me to how embrace math and keep things fun!
How has WPI’s project-based learning influenced your education?
While a lot of WPI students may find this as a source of frustration, WPI project-based learning has taught me how to deal with team dynamics, which will be extremely helpful in my future career. Group members are sometimes great and sometimes are not! WPI projects taught me how to build good relationships with groupmates and allowed me to practice having productive conversations!
