Description

Why did you choose to study at WPI?

I chose to study at WPI because of its focus on hands-on learning and exciting research opportunities, especially in fluid dynamics. The supportive environment, experienced professors, and advanced facilities make it a great place to tackle real-world challenges. WPI is the perfect fit for my passion for innovative research and meaningful contributions to science and engineering.

How are you involved with the WPI community?

As a PhD student, I’m actively involved in research, teaching, and mentoring within the WPI community. I serve as a teaching assistant (TA) for fluid dynamics courses, helping students understand complex concepts and develop their skills. Additionally, I participate in research seminars and conferences, such as the American Physical Society Division of Fluid Dynamics conference. I chose these activities because they align with my academic goals and allow me to engage with like-minded peers. What I’ve enjoyed most is the sense of collaboration and the opportunity to contribute to a vibrant academic environment.

What’s your favorite thing about WPI?

What I truly love about WPI is the positive and supportive atmosphere. The environment here feels collaborative and stress-free, which allows me to focus on my work while enjoying the process. I appreciate how welcoming and encouraging everyone is, from professors to fellow students. This creates a space where I feel motivated, happy, and able to thrive both academically and personally.

Do you have a faculty or staff mentor?

My advisor, Professor Mortazavi, has been incredibly influential in my journey at WPI. He is both kind and supportive, creating an active and positive atmosphere within our research group. His guidance inspires both scientific curiosity and personal growth. I am constantly learning from him, not only about research and scientific approaches but also about dedication and work ethic. His hardworking nature and encouragement have motivated me to aim for excellence in all aspects of my work.

What projects are you working on?

I am currently researching droplet dynamics under shear gas flow, focusing on understanding the physics behind oscillation and detachment of droplets pinned to a surface. My work also involves studying the effects of acoustic pressure waves on droplet behavior, with applications in PEM fuel cells and two-phase flow systems. By investigating low- and high-frequency interactions, I aim to optimize conditions for efficient droplet detachment, which is critical for enhancing performance in renewable energy technologies. This research combines experimental analysis and theoretical modeling to address challenges in fluid dynamics and energy systems.
