Since 1974, the Washington, D.C., Project Center has offered students the opportunity to work on projects with federal agencies and non-profits in the nation’s Capital. Housing is in an attractive neighborhood near DuPont Circle with many stores and restaurants. Via the Metro, students can get around the City, travel to project sponsors and visit the many free museums, parks and national monuments in the nation's Capital.
Our current sponsors include the National Park Service, the Consumer Product Safety Commission, the American Society for Engineering Education, Atlas Public Policy, the US Patent and Trademark Office and the United States Coast Guard.
Past Washington DC students have:
- Recommended environmentally-safe methods of collection and disposal of expired marine emergency flares with the US Coast Guard
- Studied the effectiveness of head protection devices in reducing risk of brain injury with the Consumer Product Safety Commission, and
- Developed recommendations to handle storm water runoff, from extreme weather events in the historic Dumbarton Oaks Park.
