Kathmandu, Nepal Project Center - IQP
WPI is excited to run a pilot program to Kathmandu, Nepal this year!
Nepal is a small country tucked between the regional Asian giants of India and China. It is famously the home of the highest mountain in the world—Mt. Everest (known locally as Chomolungma or Sagarmatha, depending on which Nepali community you ask)—as well as 8 out of the 10 highest mountains in the world!
Kathmandu is the capital city of Nepal, located in a large bowl-shaped valley in the foothills of the Himalayas. It is home to three ancient kingdoms, with several beautiful UNESCO World Heritage designated Hindu and Buddhist sites, and a diverse community of food, cultures, and languages. The sprawling neighborhoods that make up the Kathmandu Valley are bustling with sights, sounds, smells, and people!
B Term is a great time to visit Kathmandu, with clear weather and comfortable temperatures. Early November also marks one of Nepal’s largest holidays—Tihar. Expect to see various celebrations and puja (blessing ceremonies) at this time, including a festival that celebrates the special connection between humans and their dogs (Kukur Puja).
Projects are still being finalized but may include working with organizations which are active in civil-tech, sustainable infrastructure and development, and youth engagement for change.
