Lee teaches electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) for Graduate and Professional Studies at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI),
He is Founding Partner of SILENT Solutions LLC, an electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) consulting firm he started in Silicon Valley in 1992. He is also Managing Director of Silent Solutions GmbH (Munich). He has over 30 years of EMC design, troubleshooting, and teaching experience.
Lee received his MSEE with highest honors from the Missouri University of Science & Technology EMC Laboratory emclab.mst.edu, where he studied under Dr.’s Thomas Van Doren, Todd Hubing, and James Drewniak.
Lee is also an EMC course instructor for University of Oxford (England), and for the IEEE EMC Society's annual Global University and Fundamentals Program. Lee is the named inventor of three US patents for EMI control in electronic systems, and provides expert witness services for patent litigation. While teaching is one of Lee’s favorite jobs at SILENT, he also provides hands-on hardware troubleshooting and design reviews to solve or prevent elusive regulatory and functional electrical noise problems.
Lee is a popular international speaker and has presented EMC courses in the United States, China, Taiwan, Singapore, Mexico, Canada, South Korea, Germany, France, Poland, Norway, Portugal, Italy, and United Kingdom. He teaches private EMC courses regularly for the US Departments of Defense and Energy. He is a past EMC course instructor for the University of California Berkeley Extension, Hewlett-Packard, Agilent, Freescale Semiconductor, and General Motors University. Previously Lee was Principal EMC and Systems Engineer at Digital Equipment Corporation’s Workstation Systems Engineering Group in Palo Alto, California.
Lee frequently volunteers for the IEEE EMC Society and is a recent chair of the annual IEEE EMC Symposium’s Clayton R. Paul Global University program from 2019-2021. He is also a past member of the IEEE EMC Society's Board of Directors (2004-2007), and has also served as a member of the Society’s Awards Committee. In 1994, Lee was appointed to serve a two year term as an IEEE EMC Society Distinguished Lecturer (DL), and from 1999-2006 he served as chair of the DL program. Over the past twenty years Lee has been a frequent featured speaker at IEEE EMC Society fundraising events in cities throughout the US including Santa Clara, Seattle, Portland, Chicago, Milwaukee, Dallas/Fort Worth and Detroit. He has also provided technical presentations to Society chapters in Los Angeles, San Diego, Boston, Austin, Atlanta, Colorado Springs, Pittsburgh, and Orange County, CA.
In 2003 Lee served as Co-Technical Chair of the IEEE Symposium on EMC in Boston, Massachusetts. He is a past Vice-Chair of the Central New England Chapter of the IEEE EMC Society. In 1999 Lee received a Certificate of Appreciation from the EMC Society for significant contributions to education through his annual participation in the Demonstrations and Experiments portion of annual IEEE EMC Symposia. He also served a three-year term on the Editorial Review Board of Printed Circuit Design Magazine. He was awarded the 1993 IEEE EMC Society President’s Memorial Scholarship and the 1994 Missouri Collegiate Entrepreneur Award. Lee was a member of the original IEEE P1180 ad-hoc committee on low frequency magnetic field measurement for video display terminals.
Lee is an avid father, jogger, motorcyclist, table tennis player and Amateur Radio operator. Lee speaks English, German, Spanish, and sign language. He has served on the boards of several non-profits.
