SDG 4: Quality Education - Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all
I am an Associate Teaching Professor in the Department of Computer Science at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI). Before joining WPI, I was an Associate Teaching Professor at Washington State University (WSU) School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (2013-2023) where I served as the coordinator of the Software Engineering MS and BS programs. I earned my Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Southern California in 2010. My research interests are in data management and database systems, specifically geospatial and multidimensional data management. My research has primarily focused on large-scale geospatial data indexing, sensor-rich video annotation and search, and spatiotemporal data mining.
I love teaching computer science. My teaching interests include programming languages, database systems, and software engineering, and data structures. I received several teaching awards including the WSU Voiland College of Engineering & Architecture, Reid Miller Excellence in Teaching Award and the WSU School of EECS Outstanding Teacher Award. My primary goals as a teacher are to awaken and stimulate my students' intrinsic curiosity by nurturing their critical thinking skills and allowing them to experience the joy of learning and problem solving. I always encourage them to be enthusiastic about their work and to strive for excellence. I enjoy teaching and try to instill that enthusiasm in my students. I show them that I care about their success, try to invoke a passion for learning, and have them experience the joy and satisfaction of making a difference.
