Mostafa Asheghan is an Assistant Teaching Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering at WPI. His research interests include model- and data-driven control, robust control and nonlinear dynamics, with applications in biomedical engineering. He also explores other areas such as system identification, statistical shape analysis, fractional-order systems, complex networks, zero-dimension models, chaos theory, stability analysis and soft robotics.
He received his first Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering from TMU (Iran) in 2011, and his second Ph.D. degree in Multimedia from University of Carlos III (Spain) in 2014. From 2014 to 2016 he was a postdoctoral researcher at University of Carlos III, where he was involved in a project related to the modeling, stability analysis and nonlinear control of the electrical activity of the human heart.
He has been a postdoctoral researcher at University of Carlos III, where he contributed to a project on modeling and controlling the electrical activity of the human heart. Before joining WPI, he has been a researcher at Harvard Medical School where he developed research in several areas regarding heart disorders and supervised student’s projects. He has also been an assistant professor at University of Science and Research in Iran, and an adjunct instructor at Northeastern University. He was named Outstanding in both Ph.D. dissertation defenses. His last academic award was Annual Excellence Research Award in "Discover Brigham" event for his novel research in the field of leveraging chaos theory in early detection of arrhythmia.
Dr. Asheghan is passionate about teaching and mentoring students. He aims to inspire them to pursue innovative and impactful research in Electrical Engineering and related fields.
