WORCESTER, Mass. -- Karen Tegan Padir '90, vice president of enterprise Java platforms at Sun Microsystems Inc., was honored as one of the 2007 Women to Watch by Mass High Tech at a ceremony in Boston on March 1. Tegan Padir was one of 10 honorees recognized as New England's most accomplished women in the high tech industry. The honorees spanned the breadth of the New England technology community, from life sciences to telecommunications to new energy.
A computer science graduate who also earned an MBA at WPI in 1995, Tegan Padir worked briefly at Stratus Computer and Red Hat, but has spent most of her career at Sun, where she now manages a group of about 700 employees worldwide that makes up about 13 percent of the company’s software division and generates about 30 percent of its total software revenue.
WPI was a platinum sponsor of the Women to Watch awards ceremony, and Tegan Padir was introduced at by Diane Strong, associate professor of management at the university. Like Tegan Padir, Strong earned her undergraduate degree in computer science and now teaches and conducts research on information technology and business applications. She said Tegan Padir "exemplifies the women who choose to come to WPI—strong, dedicated, hard-working, and ambitious."
