There's nothing quite like the changing leaves on WPI’s campus in autumn. Our staff photographers focused on those beautiful colors, exciting events, and all the fun happenings. In this Month in Photos, see what else was happening on campus.
Everybody knows robots are just so cool, and they added to the excitement of the Central MA STEM Network Ecosystem’s Family STEM Night at the Worcester Boys & Girls Club. As part of Massachusetts STEM Week 2024, WPI participants showed future STEM game changers and their families why STEM is so much fun.
We’re not exaggerating when we say our classroom work connects to world events. Students in James Urban’s Fire Protection Engineering lab class saw how wildfires spread in the urban-wildland interface (where wildfires meet residential areas) and learn how their work will help.
Senior Lottie McLeod gained control of the ball during the Women’s Soccer Senior Day. The day brought friends and loved ones to honor the seniors, and the team showed exceptional effort in the scoreless game against Smith College.

So many choices for soaking up the last warm days of a glorious fall! From catching up with friends on the quad to the particularly seasonal delight of moving a class outside, the campus glowed with a special October energy.
Pumpkins take center stage in October, but when they get airborne, it might not end well. Airplanes though? There’s beauty when they glide on a breeze on top of the Hill.
Two biology and biotechnology faculty—professor Amity Manning and professor and department head Reeta Rao—were recently awarded nearly $900,000 Graduate Assistance in Areas of National Need (GAANN) program grant from the Department of Education to fund need-based WPI fellowships focused on recruiting doctoral candidates from underserved areas and backgrounds. WPI’s current PhD students in the Department of Biology and Biotechnology are pictured above.
There’s no denying the high energy of the Engineers football team. Focusing all that enthusiasm, the team notched a victory against the visiting US Merchant Marine Academy, 35-21.

More than 150 Massachusetts high school students and their advisors came to campus for the 2024 34th Annual WPI Invitational Mathematics Meet. Students enjoy the challenge of math and numbers, collaboration with other like-minded students, and getting to know the super math-friendly WPI.
How else to celebrate the seniors on Women’s Field Hockey Senior Day than with a crowd of their biggest fans? The 5-1 win over Salve Regina only added to the pride boost.

Tell me you’re a WPI student without telling me you’re a WPI student. No matter how many robots we have on campus—hanging in a swarm of drones, delivering a snack, working as an essential research component—they are still an irresistible go-to option for Halloween.
