Expert Bio
Vladimir Vantsevich is an expert on autonomous vehicles. He is a professor in the Department of Mechanical & Materials Engineering, co-director and principal investigator of WPI’s Autonomous Vehicle Mobility Institute (AVMI), which is a research and development and technical services organization that seeks to advance modeling and simulation, design and control, hybrid testing and experimentation of autonomous and manned vehicles for maneuverability, terrain mobility, energy efficiency, and active survivability in severe terrain conditions and adversarial environments. AVMI's work focuses on off-road autonomous vehicles for different applications, including reconnaissance and disaster response, military vehicles, planetary exploration, farm tractors, construction equipment, and forestry machinery. Professor Vantsevich does research and engineering design in vehicle systems to enhance autonomous vehicle dynamics and performance in challenging terrains. He is currently co-leading the AVMI Autonomous Systems Lab project, which was established in 2023 with $2 million in funding from the Massachusetts Technology Collaborative.
