Expert Bio
Professor of computer science Rodica Neamtu studies and leads students through exploration of the human impact of artificial intelligence. Neamtu oversees the AI4ALL (Artificial Intelligence For All) program at WPI which allows students to study ethical issues related to AI including the social and economic effects of the technology. Her research aims to identify and address bias in artificial intelligence in areas such as criminal justice. Neamtu’s work in this area encourages diversity and inclusion in the field of computer science and artificial intelligence.
Neamtu approaches AI from her perspective as a data mining researcher focused on how to develop and use new techniques to explore data for use in applications such as medicine, neuroscience, economics, and transportation. She co-directs a WPI Global Project Center in Romania.
