WPI robot helps power Hollywood movie "Rule Breakers"

If you see the new movie Rule Breakers, look for a robot developed in 2022 by a student and professor from the robotics engineering program. The Worcester Telegram & Gazette reported on the student research work that drew movie producers to the program; and ultimately led to WPI's unique contribution to the film about Afghanistan’s first all-female robotics team and its inspiring journey to international competitions.

Recycling Today

Recycling Today wrote about WPI researchers' findings that re-using auto parts can greatly cut greenhouse gas emissions compared with buying new parts. Brajendra Mishra, the Kenneth G. Merriam Professor in Mechanical Engineering, was lead author on the study.

EV Engineering & Infrastructure

WPI researchers are partnering with Grensol and XCharge North America to develop an industrial recycling solution for electric vehicle supply equipment, such as EV charging cables and modules in an effort to promote more sustainable electrified travel. The research at WPI is being led by Brajendra Mishra, the Kenneth G. Merriam Distinguished Professor of Mechanical & Materials Engineering and the director of the Metal Processing Institute at WPI, and Akanksha Gupta, a postdoctoral fellow in materials science & engineering.

Brajendra Mishra, the Kenneth G. Merriam Professor of Mechanical & Materials Engineering and the Director of the Metals Processing Institute at WPI, is prominently quoted in this Science article which looks at the growing global problem of what to do with red mud, one of the most abundant industrial wastes on the planet. "The composition of [red mud] varies so much it means one [type of solution] will not work," says Mishra.

Recycling Today

Recycling Today published an article about WPI’s research that supports military defense materials supply. The development of new technologies could recapture critical materials can be reused by soldiers in the field.

The Telegram & Gazette talked to Brajendra Mishra, the Kenneth G. Merriam Professor of mechanical engineering, about the tariffs that are hitting recycling businesses and consumers hard, and putting a strain on the industry. “In cases where recycling is not profitable, like glass and paper, the government should step up and provide subsidies in those areas," Mishra told the Telegram & Gazette. "Like the subsidy we provide for solar panels because we know it is good for the environment.”
