Popular magazine PC Gamer, OnlineColleges.com, and The Princeton Review have named Worcester Polytechnic Institute's (WPI) Interactive Media & Game Development (IMGD) program among the top in the nation.
WPI is featured in the November issue of PC Gamer as part of the "Game Schools" feature with eight other American colleges that have notable game design programs. The story lists WPI’s program information along with notable graduates.
WPI's IMGD program was also noted in an article in OnlineColleges.com in September as a top college for video gamers. The site highlights WPI's major and minor degree program for undergraduates and a master's degree program for graduate students. The piece states that "…these programs promote education across disciplines and project-based learning while at the graduate level they offer design at an in-depth level."
In March, WPI received an honorable mention from The Princeton Review as one of the top undergraduate schools for video game design.
Mark Claypool, director of IMGD at WPI, said the listings are testament to the continued strong programs offered at the university.
"Students in the IMGD department are exposed to program that allows them to follow and fuel their passions," said Claypool. "Whether students pursue art, design, technology, computer science – or a combination of these areas – they are free to explore and create a pathway to an exciting and creative career."
Edward J. Connor, WPI's dean of admissions, noted that the number of students enrolled in the university's IMGD program has doubled over the past five years.
"We’re finding that employers are looking for a combination of technical skills and outstanding, team-oriented problem solvers," said Connor. "WPI is hitting the mark in both areas."
