WPI's Interdisciplinary Global Studies Division (IGSD) will host a Global Opportunities Fair from 4-6 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 18, in the Campus Center Odeum to showcase the university's 25 Global Project Centers located around the world. As part of their undergraduate degree requirements, the Global Project Centers allow WPI students to pursue hands-on, real-world research opportunities in all corners of the world. All of WPI's Project Centers will be represented at the fair, and approximately 500 students will attend.
What
Worcester Polytechnic Institute's (WPI) Interdisciplinary Global Studies Division (IGSD) will host a Global Opportunities Fair to showcase the university's 25 Global Project Centers located around the world. As part of their undergraduate degree requirements, the Global Project Centers allow WPI students to pursue hands-on, real-world research opportunities in all corners of the world. All of WPI's Project Centers will be represented at the fair, and approximately 500 students will attend. The Global Opportunities Fair provides a forum for students to learn about each of WPI's ongoing Global Projects, and to speak with the center directors. Students will also be able to gather information on each of the project sites, learn about the costs involved (as well as financial aid availability), and will even have access to free passport photography.
Why
Through WPI's IGSD Global Projects Program, WPI sends more engineering and science students abroad than any other university in the United States. At WPI, the opportunity to pursue projects off campus is a signature element of an academic program that prepares students to put knowledge to work by developing solutions to meaningful technical and societal problems. More than half of WPI students complete at least one academic project off campus (required for an undergraduate degree), in locations from Boston to Bangkok and Cape Town to Copenhagen.
Working in small teams and in close collaboration with faculty mentors, WPI students tackle problems of importance to communities around the world. In doing so, they make a real difference and gain the confidence to take on the challenges of work and life.
