WPI Trustee Maureen McCaffrey Appears on The Big Dig Podcast

WPI Board of Trustees member Maureen McCaffrey ’86 (civil engineering) appeared on WGBH’s The Big Dig podcast, a series of podcast episodes devoted to exploring the construction project that moved Boston’s crowded, elevated highway to an entirely underground series of tunnels. McCaffrey was a project engineer on Atlantic Avenue during the Big Dig.

Listen to McCaffrey discuss what it was like for those who worked on the project. She talks about the challenges of navigating the use of utility plans of a centuries-old city to try to minimize disruptions to everyday life for Bostonians in the sixth episode of The Big Dig “The Up Down Charts.”

In the eighth episode of The Big Dig podcast, “I Want Justice for What Happened,” McCaffrey joins the conversation to talk about how using slurry walls and concrete transformed into the tunnels that brought the highways underground.

McCaffrey is a director at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Investment Management Co., has been named to the Boston Real Estate Times list of Outstanding Women of Commercial Real Estate for 2024. She is also a founding member of the WPI Women’s Impact Network and co-chair of the Impact Committee.
