On Tuesday, October 6th 2020 a team of WPI students was presented the Key to the City by Worcester Mayor Joseph Petty. The students received the award during a virtual ceremony for their work on Stigma Free Worcester, a smartphone app that provides local resources for substance abuse recovery, mental health support and housing. Users can get information on critical resources in the area such as clinics, hospitals, shelters and access to drug abuse and mental health care. The app was a Worcester Community Project Center IQP project sponsored by the City of Worcester Division of Health and Human Services. It also won the 2019 President’s IQP award. Stigma Free Worcester is available as a free download on both the App Store and Google Play. In the past 18 months it has been downloaded more than 1500 times.
