Department(s):
Office of the PresidentDear WPI Community,
Let me begin by thanking you; last week I asked for your nominations of individuals from the WPI community who you believed should be considered for the Interim Provost position, and more than 80 were submitted. Your respect and regard for our colleagues was evident and inspiring, and WPI is fortunate to have such a great depth of excellence within our community.
After carefully considering the nominees — and the alignment of their experience with the key needs, priorities, and characteristics that you helped to identify for the interim role — we ultimately met with three outstanding candidates and have selected Professor Art Heinricher to (once again) serve as WPI’s Interim Senior Vice President and Provost.
Art’s reputation as a collaborative, empathetic, and respected leader precedes him. Serving as a professor of mathematical sciences since 1992, Dean of Undergraduate Studies for 14 years, and Interim Provost last year, he is highly committed to the success of our students, the excellence of our academic programs, and WPI’s mission. Art is knowledgeable about WPI’s academic operation, and genuinely supports our faculty and staff. I am confident that Art will bring our faculty, staff, and students together and help accelerate the momentum to advance our academic enterprise.
I sincerely appreciate Art’s willingness to serve again in this important interim capacity and I hope you will join me in congratulating him — and supporting him — in this role, which we anticipate will span the full academic year.
We are in the process of formalizing a national search for a permanent provost and will keep you apprised of those efforts and important milestones.
Sincerely,
Grace
