The Office of Pre-Collegiate Outreach Programs is excited to announce that our Spring Academic Year programs are beginning.  Some began earlier this month, with others beginning in February.     

 

BOOST Virtual Programs*

Our BOOST programs allow students in grades 7-12 to build, explore, and boost their STEM skills with WPI's undergraduate students. This program series will allow students to explore the STEM topic area while boosting their skills and knowledge of specific topics related to science, technology, engineering, and math.

 Grades: Grades 7 & 8; 9 & 10

Dates: January 23 to February 27, 2021

Program Offerings: Electronic Gadget Design with Arduinos, Game Development with Python, and Video Design for YouTubeGrades 7-8

 

Girl Who Code*

Girls Who Code is an international non-profit organization that helps to close the gender gap in technology. Through the Girls Who Code Clubs program at WPI, girls will be able to learn the foundations of computer science while exposing them to positive female role models who are currently involved in the field. This fall girls will be introduced to website development by learning languages such as HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.

Grades: Girls in Grades 7 - 11

Dates: January 20 to March 3, 2021

 

Tech Kids: Explore Your World*

Buildings and structures, space, robotics, and electricity…these are just a few of the topics that participants will have the opportunity to explore in this program! This is a 4-week program that focuses on a different STEM disciplines. Each week, students will take part in a learning module and hands-on activities that promote creativity, problem solving, and teamwork. Materials will be supplied for porch pick-up at WPI. Engineers on the Go

This is a half-day program that exposes girls and boys in grades 3-5 to engineering through learning sessions and hands-on activities led by WPI undergraduate mentors. Students will rotate virtually through four stations, exploring what engineers do and the different types of engineering that exist.

Date: February 15, 2021  Hours: 9:00-11:00am EST (Please note: Due to limited space, participants may only sign up for one of the February vacation week programs)

Date: February 16, 2021  Hours: 1:00-3:00pm EST (Please note: Due to limited space, participants may only sign up for one of the February vacation week programs)

Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day 

This is a half-day program exposes girls in grades 3-5 to engineering through learning sessions and hands-on activities led by WPI undergraduate mentors.  Students will rotate virtually through four stations, exploring what engineers do and the different types of engineering that exist.

Dates: February 2 - 23, 2021 (This session will have the same curriculum as the Fall 2020 Tech Kids)

Hours: Tuesdays, 4:00-5:30 pm EST

Technology Needed: Internet Connection, Computer/Tablet, and Webcam

Cost: This section of Tech Kids is funded by a grant and is free and only available to Worcester Public School students.
