The Division of Talent & Inclusion (T&I) is now accepting nominations for the inaugural run of the Supervisory Leadership Program, the university’s newest Learning & Development offering.

This seven-session program is intended for supervisors with at least three years of managerial experience who are eager to develop their leadership knowledge, skills, and abilities. Open to both faculty and staff, the program runs from November 04, 2024, through February 24, 2025, with in-person meetings held from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Higgins House Library.

Faculty and staff who are interested in this professional development opportunity should have their manager nominate them by sending an email to learning@wpi.edu by October 30. The cohort will be limited to 15 participants, so early nominations are encouraged. Nominations should include:

  1. Name(s) of the nominee(s)
  2. Current title/role of the nominee(s)
  3. Brief summary of why the nominee(s) would be an ideal fit for this opportunity

The Supervisory Leadership Program has grown out of the success of the Self Leadership Program, which T&I offers for non-managerial faculty and staff interested in cultivating their leadership qualities. In addition to discussing leadership qualities in general, participants in the Supervisory Leadership Program will explore ways to effectively lead members of their team and confidently make decisions. Some of the topics covered include managing differences, embracing emotions, and the art of giving and receiving feedback.

“We are excited to offer a diverse range of professional learning and development programs in the upcoming year, tailored to support staff and faculty in enhancing their supervisory and leadership skills,” says Lauren Turner, senior vice president of Talent & Inclusion and chief diversity officer.  “Feedback from last year’s staff climate survey highlighted a strong interest in learning and growth opportunities. We encourage everyone to invest in their professional development and take advantage of these programs to further their skills and career.”

To support the Supervisory Leadership Program’s costs, including third-party assessment tools, a minimal fee of $200 will be charged to each participant’s department. For more information about the Supervisory Leadership Program and to review the sessions’ topics, click here
