New Policy - Minors on Campus

Every year, WPI hosts a large number of minors who participate in classes, camps and other programming on our campus. As a part of our ongoing commitment to providing a safe and welcoming environment for our community and visitors, the Offices of the General Counsel and Pre-collegiate Outreach programs have collaborated to review existing policies and procedures related to programs serving children under the age of 18.  Based on the review of current practices at the institution and best practices for the safety and security of minors, we have developed the first University-wide Minors on Campus Policy.

The new policy, which takes effect immediately, sets six safeguards/requirements, which will govern the delivery of University programs that serve children. These requirements include registering the program, executing appropriate written contracts/liability forms, conducting background check of staff, providing staff training on working with minors, establishing behavioral expectations for staff, and reporting of any alleged inappropriate behavior.  The full policy can be found here.
