Meet Reunion Ambassador Jim Rubino '74
Department(s):
AlumniWe're excited to welcome our reunion classes back home to the Hill for Reunion Weekend on May 10-11!
Some of our reunion class members are serving as Reunion Ambassadors, spreading the word and encouraging friends and classmates to join them on campus for the weekend. (Interested in being an ambassador? Sign up here!)
Jim Rubino '74 is one of them. We recently caught up with Jim to hear about his WPI experience and what he's looking forward to most.
Q: What was your favorite part of your WPI experience?
A: My fraternity brothers at Phi Kappa Theta along with classmates that I interacted with as an RA, IFC member and running the Social Committee. In other words, the people!
Q: Who made an impact on your WPI experience?
A: The basis of the overall education at WPI was/is "Problem Solving". ME Professors Don Zweip and Ron Biedermann taught me engineering problem solving. Ken Nourse, Steve Hebert and Bill Trask taught me how to better interact with others. Bill Grogan, our KAP advisor, taught me how to plan and then execute a project. Bernie Brown was the most influential person to me my Junior & Senior years. So, what problem solving did Bernie teach/live with me? How about getting a call from him (land line) a week before Homecoming. It seems that the nightclub act that John Young & I had booked (Bill Cosby, yes that guy!) for next Saturday night, had cancelled. No panic. Just action: Within 2 days the replacement was impressionist, Rich Little. He put on a great show. Bernie continued to be a close confidant and friend through the years. I miss him.
Q: What excites you most about returning to the Hill for your upcoming Reunion Weekend?
A: Getting together with Phi Kappa Theta brothers and reconnecting with the Social Committee & RA crew.
Q: Why should your classmates join you?
A: Why not, what else do you have to do? Most are retired!
