The Global School

The Global School Virtual Event Series kicks off for the second consecutive year on Wednesday, September 22, 2-5pm.  Each month an event will highlight a particular global grand challenge theme or specific region of the world where WPI is working to address local and global challenges. Topics will include health, energy, environment, food, water, mobility and climate change. There will be opportunities to meet academic partners, activists and thought leaders who are advocating for innovative, positive change in these fields. Learn how WPI is leveraging its extensive network of global projects centers, collaborative partnerships, and innovative research to create impact in these areas. 

The first event on September 22 will focus on Community Climate AdaptationThe keynote session includes Dr. Franco Montalto and Maria Belen Power in a lively moderated discussion with podcaster and national climate adaptation influencer, Doug Parsons. Dr. Montalto is a Professor of Civil & Environmental Engineering at Drexel University and brings 25 years of experience in research and nature-based solutions including green infrastructure and low impact development. Ms. Power is the Associate Executive Director of GreenRoots, a community organization in Chelsea, MA dedicated to environmental justice.  She was appointed by President Biden to serve on the newly established White House Environmental Justice Advisory Council (WHEJAC).  Mr. Parsons is the director and host of the America Adapts podcast. Learn what you can do to get involved and help your community adapt to a changing world.
