EV Charging Station “Overstay Fee” Begins November 1st
Department(s):
Office of SustainabilityAs part of our dedication to sustainability, WPI is pleased to support the use of electric vehicles (EVs) by providing 10 dual EV charging stations for the convenience of employees. EV drivers can charge their vehicles up to 4 hours per day, at no charge, at the university’s charging stations.
We have found, however, that vehicles are often left at the station well beyond the 4-hour allotment, which blocks other drivers from charging their vehicles.
In order to give more employees access to the charging stations, we are implementing an Overstay Fee for any vehicle left at the station beyond 4 hours. This fee will go into effect beginning November 1.
Of note:
- The first 4 hours of charging will remain FREE to all users; users should only occupy a charging spot while their EV is being charged.
- After 4 hours, the user will be charged $4.00 per hour until the vehicle is moved.
- The fees will be charged to the user’s ChargePoint account.
- Users must link a form of payment to their ChargePoint account before November 1 in order to continue using the campus charging stations.
The university’s policy regarding the EV charging stations can be found here: Full Policy & FAQs
