Workday Course Name: ES 202X-D01 - Innovation Through Making

If you’re curious about how to make things, this course is for you!

Would you like to learn more about the basics of digital fabrication and “Maker” technologies including 3D printing, laser cutting, vacuum forming, Arduino programming, etc., and leveraging technology to create change in the world?

Innovation Through Making (ES202x) is a multi-disciplinary beginner-friendly pilot course that introduces you to the world of digital fabrication and provides hands-on experience on the basics of engineering design and entrepreneurial skillset training. You will be inspired to develop creative innovations, prototype, test, learn, get feedback, and iterate through fun activities, workshops, guest lectures, and design challenges to spark discovery. The course culminates in an open-ended, team project that uses human-centered design thinking and value creation approaches to develop solutions to a real-world problem and fabricate a product prototype as you compete for the “Maker Goat of the Term” award.

Teams will have the opportunity to seek further funding, mentorship, and guidance to build upon their prototypes and move towards product commercialization.

This course counts for ES 2000-level degree requirements for M.E, RBE, ECE and Business degree programs, and may also be available for credit as an engineering elective in other degree programs.
