The Arts and Creativity in the time of COVID - Deadline extended to Aug 10!
Artists respond to, reflect, and help to produce the world that we live in, and in doing so, provide different ways to understand our own experiences. Likewise, making art asks people to process their experiences in ways that are communal, shared, and public. As part of Arts and Science Week, and to better highlight arts and creativity at WPI, the School of Arts and Sciences will host our first WPI+Arts event around the theme of with COVID-19.
We invite submissions in the visual, literary, and performing arts (including but not limited to short stories, poetry, essays, plays, painting, sculpture, film, musical compositions, etc.) in response to these COVID-19-based themes:
- Community in isolation
- Alone together
- Before, during, and after
- Identity, agency, and optimism in a pandemic
- Ourselves in the world
- Human connection in a virtual world
- Home
- Caretaking
- Empathy and imagination in challenging times
Faculty, staff and students are encouraged to participate! Cash prizes up to $1000!
Deadline for submissions: August 10, 2020.
All entries should be submitted to artsandsciences@wpi.edu. Submission should include preferred name, class year (if student), and hometown. Entries must include an artist statement (not to exceed 200 words) and a picture of the visual art or a sample of the performance. The statement must mention the specific COVID-19 based theme that the art is focused on. Applicants with a file size that is too large for email should contact the Dean’s office at artsandsciences@wpi.edu for alternate methods of file submission.
