Daniel Ottey, a senior mechanical engineering major, received the 2019 award for Outstanding Peer Learning Assistant (PLA) at the Student Recognition Awards ceremony earlier this month. Daniel has served as a tutor in the Academic Resources Center (ARC) and for the MASH program. His citation read: “Students describe Daniel as patient, flexible, personable, respectful, and dedicated to the academic success of all students. He understands when waiting and listening is more important than talking. The Director of the ARC praised Daniel’s ability to work both with students and the faculty teaching the course. She also credits Daniel with teaching her about tutoring at WPI. Yes, Daniel tutored the person in charge of tutoring about tutoring.”
This award has been presented by the Morgan Teaching and Learning Center annually since 2013, in recognition of the key role of peer assistants in supporting distinctive undergraduate education at WPI. Congratulations, Daniel!
