On Monday, January 16, 2023, WPI will be represented at the 38th Annual Community Breakfast honoring the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. with representatives from the STEM Education Center, the Office of Government & Community Relations, the Office of Diversity, Inclusion, and Multicultural Education (ODIME), the Student Activities Office (SAO), and a few faculty members. As a member of the WPI community, we would like to provide you with two different opportunities to be involved in MLK, Jr. Day:

  1. WPI has partnered with a number of community organizations to collect new books for local second- and third-grade students in both Fitchburg and Worcester Public Schools. Age-appropriate books on Dr. King, other civil rights leaders, and justice and equity topics are needed. Books can be purchased at Root & Press or Tidepool Bookshop both on Chandler Street in Worcester, MA throughout the weekend. You can also donate directly to The Worcester Area Mission Society (WAMS) with “MLK, Jr.  Book Drive” in the comment section of your donation.
  2. The YMCA of Central Massachusetts along with a few members of the WPI community will be putting together emergency overnight kits for foster children. The kits will include PJs, socks, and toothbrushes. PJs and socks (of all sizes) are needed.

Plastic collection bins for the books, PJs, and socks are at the following locations until Friday, January 13 at 5pm:
