WHAT

The 2015 Spring Career Fair at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) will host 180 employers from a range of industries. The event is open to WPI undergraduate and graduate students and alumni.

WHEN

Thursday, Feb. 19, from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. Preregistration begins at noon.

WHERE

Sports and Recreation Center, WPI campus, 100 Institute Road, Worcester, Mass.

WHO

Employers from New England and beyond, representing a range of industries, will participate. They include defense contractors Raytheon and United Technologies, tech giants, manufacturing firms, and companies seeking candidates from such innovative WPI programs as Robotics Engineering and Interactive Media & Game Development.

"We are expecting over 500 employer representatives to meet with 2,300-plus current WPI undergraduate and graduate students, as well as alumni. This is an exciting opportunity for students to network with companies and learn more about summer internship, co-op, and full-time opportunities, right on campus," said Allyson Bernard, senior recruiting coordinator at the WPI Career Development Center (CDC).

WHY

National unemployment is at 5.7 percent, and college students are graduating with increasing debt and tight job prospects. The skills most in demand and garnering the highest wages are in the science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) fields.

"Employers tell us WPI is one of their favorite schools to recruit from because our students have that ideal combination of expert knowledge, practical skills, and motivation to work in teams to produce results," said Steve Koppi, executive director of the CDC. "Demand for WPI students in the job market is increasing, we are seeing increased employer recruiting activity, more job openings in our system (JobFinder), and strong corporate participation in the WPI career fairs."
