What
Worcester Polytechnic Institute’s (WPI) is hosting the 8th annual RoboNautica, the official state championship tournament of FIRST LEGO League (FLL), which showcases the talents of hundreds of children ages 9-14 (tomorrow’s engineers and scientists) from across Massachusetts and the Northeast. With the theme of “Climate Connections,” this year’s tournament is made possible by a generous gift from Raytheon Network Centric Systems. Through RoboNautica and several other annual robotics-related events, WPI has become New England’s proving ground for hundreds of would-be robotics champions.
With six competition table-pairs, the action at RoboNautica is non-stop from the first match to the exciting elimination finals. Teams will set their autonomous robots in motion to accomplish simulated tasks such as elevating a house, building levees, and conducting research in the Arctic. For the first time this year, all participating teams qualified for RoboNautica through their successful performance at one of six regional tournaments held throughout the state. A total of 64 teams (up from 48 last year) will compete; two of the top competitors will receive invitations to attend the FLL World Festival in Atlanta; another top team will be invited to attend the FLL U.S. Open in Ohio.
